And You Thought Your Work-Life Balance Was Difficult …

Dad of Quadruplets Shares What He Learned Juggling Family Life and Successful Business Career

Larry Katzen forged an ambitious career as a managing partner at one of the world’s most prestigious accounting firms.  But he has been equally ambitious with his family life; he’s the father of quadruplets—three sons and one daughter. And he simultaneously felt it was important to serve his community; sitting on more than 10 boards of directors, including the St. Louis Regional Regional Commerce and Growth Association, Greater St. Louis Area Boy Scouts, local Junior Achievement, and the Board of Governors for Drake University.

“I suppose someone else might look at my life and wonder, ‘How did you manage?’ But it all comes down to having a patient and understanding spouse and a handful of basic principles, such as doing the right thing, listening to your heart and always being open to learning,” says Katzen, author of “And You Thought Accountants Were Boring – My Life Inside Arthur Andersen” a unique look how he managed a successful career at one of the most prestigious accounting firms in the world that suddenly and surprisingly ended with its indictment in March, 2002
